Oscar-winning director will not be sent to U.S. for sentencing in 1977 child sex case.By Gil Kaufman

The decades-long legal saga of Oscar-winning filmmaker Roman Polanski took another twist on Monday (July 12), when Switzerland's Ministry of Justice announced that it would not extradite the director of "The Pianist" to the U.S. to face sentencing for child sex charges.
According to CNN, the 76-year-old director was set free after his arrest last year for the nearly 35-year-old case, in which he pleaded guilty in Los Angeles to having unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977. Polanski admitted to having sex with the underage girl after supplying her with champagne and quaaludes during a photo shoot, but he fled to Europe before his sentencing. In exchange for his guilty plea, rape and other charges were dropped at the time.
Polanski had been fighting extradition from Switzerland since his arrest last year, and Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf said the decision by the Swiss authorities was not based on the severity of the charge or whether Polanski was guilty. "It's not about qualifying the crime," said Widmer-Schlumpf. "That is not our job. It's also not about deciding over guilt or innocence."
CNN reported that the American request was rejected because U.S. authorities apparently did not supply all the legal records Switzerland had required and because Polanski had a reasonable right to think he would not be arrested if he visited the country. American authorities can't apply again to have Polanski extradited from Switzerland, but could try if he's detained in another country.
Polanski fled the U.S. before he was sentenced in the case after learning that the judge might not go through with the short jail term the director expected in exchange for his guilty plea. He has been a fugitive from justice since 1978, mostly living in France before his arrest in Switzerland.
The victim in the case, a now-married woman in her 40s named Samantha Geimer, long ago came forward to say she was unhappy with how the criminal case had been handled, but has called for it to be thrown out because the airing of the details of the incident causes her harm every time it is re-examined in public.

Comedian and actor Martin Lawrence tied the knot over the weekend. The funnyman married his longtime girlfriend, Shamicka Gibbs, on Saturday at his Beverly Hills home.
People magazine reports that 120 guests, including Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington and fellow comedian Eddie Murphy, watched the pair swap vows. The couple's daughters served as flower girls and guests celebrated the nuptials under a tent in Lawrence's backyard.
In addition to getting married, Lawrence has been mulling a different kind of pairing on the big screen. The star revealed to MTV News earlier this year that he might team up with Will Smith for another installment of the action-packed "Bad Boys" series.
"I got Big Willie to come down and see me about the movie. I felt special," Lawrence told MTV News in April. "Any time you can get Big Willie to come out and talk about doing a third installment of a hot movie like 'Bad Boys,' you have to take notice. I met with [director] Michael Bay, and he said he's onboard too so it's real."
Lawrence said the decision to bring the buddy-cop series back to theaters is in the hands of a Hollywood bigwig. "We're just waiting on [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer to let us know when it's really real." In an interview with MTV News the following month, Bruckheimer seemed open to the idea of a Mike Lowery-Marcus Burnett reunion. "We're talking about it," Bruckheimer said. "Will Smith came up with a terrific idea for a screenplay, and we've been working on a script, so we'll keep our fingers crossed."

NBA superstar Carmelo Anthony and former MTV VJ LaLa Vasquez got married in New York City on Saturday night with a host of A-listers looking on.
The Associated Press reports that around 300 guests including Spike Lee, Kim Kardashian and fellow baller LeBron James watched the couple swap vows at Manhattan's Cipriani restaurant. The duo's 3-year-old son, Kiyan, escorted them down the aisle.
According to People magazine, the bride wore a Vera Wang gown, and the wedding was officiated by Georgetown professor Dr. Michael Eric Dyson. DJ Clue spun at the wedding, which was filmed as part of an upcoming VH1 reality show, according to UsMagazine.com. Vasquez and Anthony got engaged in 2004.
Vasquez and her pals also tweeted about the wedding festivities over the weekend. On Saturday, Ciara sent out a twit pic of the star with the bride, Kim Kardashian, Trina and Angie Martinez lounging on a boat. After the ceremony, Miami MC Trina tweeted, "Best night of my life @LalaVazquez and Melo wedding!! :)."
Vasquez apparently had a great time as well, as Clue tweeted to the newlywed, "u're the 1st person I ever seen trying to jump off the stage into the crowd in a wedding dress! Welcome2 #TeamWasted." The next day, Vasquez shouted out Clue for keeping the energy up: "I love @THEREALDJCLUE he had it ROCKIN last night! UNBELIEVABLE."
The new bride also took a second to thank everyone for helping her celebrate the big event. "Best night of my entire life," Vasquez tweeted. "Thank u to all my family and friends who shared tonight with me. I love u. I'm on cloud 9 right now."
Share your well-wishes for Carmelo and LaLa in the comments below.

'Camp Rock 2' track 'Wouldn't Change a Thing' is about opposites trying to make their relationship work.By Jocelyn Vena

In less than a month, the "Camp Rock 2" soundtrack will be released, but fans are already getting a taste of what they can expect from it. In a new track leaked online, "Wouldn't Change a Thing," Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas sing about two people who, despite being opposites, try to make their relationship work, even if it feels at times like it won't.
In the chorus, the duo sing, "Like fire and rain/ You can drive me insane/ But I can't stay mad at you for anything/ We're like Venus and Mars/ We're like different stars." Later on in the song they sing, "We're perfectly imperfect/ But I wouldn't change a thing."
In an interview on Radio Disney earlier this year, Demi said, "['Wouldn't Change a Thing'] is close to my heart. It's probably one of my favorite parts of the movie."
"Camp Rock 2" will premiere on September 3 on the Disney Channel. The soundtrack, which features the new song, will be out on August 10.
While some dates on their upcoming tour have been rescheduled, with the "Camp Rock 2" tour now kicking off August 7 at First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, Illinois, the pair will hit the road this summer for the rest of the Jonas Brothers' headlining trek. And despite the fact that Joe and Demi broke up in May, Lovato insists she will hold her own with the guys.
"I always hold my own, get it straight!" she joked. "I'm just kidding! It'll be fun. I'm excited. I'm representing."
"Wouldn't Change a Thing" and other "Camp Rock 2" songs will probably make the set list, but the guys say fans should brace themselves for a full-on JoBros tour. "It's a Jonas Brothers tour, as usual. We just thought it'd be great to integrate [other] musical outlets as well," Kevin said. "We thought it was a great way for our opening acts to have a place in the show as well. It's gonna be fun, 'cause we know everybody. We've been doing a movie together for a while."
What do you think of Joe and Demi's new tune? Does it make you excited for "Camp Rock 2"? Tell us in the comments!

'If 'Predators 2' was to come around, or 'Predators-es,' I'd jump at the opportunity,' director Nimrod Antal says.By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Todd Gilchrist and Josh Horowitz
Adrien Brody
Photo: MTV News
When Robert Rodriguez sat down in the mid-'90s to script the next installment in the 'Predator' franchise, he ended up laying out far more than just one movie.
"You could have split it up into three pictures," Rodriguez told MTV News recently.
Rodriguez's script was not just overly ambitious in its storytelling arc, but also in its practical effects and budget. The movie went nowhere, and 15 years passed before Rodriguez brought in director Nimrod Antal and writers Alex Litvak and Michael Finch to excavate a workable movie from his original draft. The fruits of that work hit the multiplex this past weekend, when "Predators" grossed $25.3 million domestically, solid though not extraordinary for a film with a reported $40 million budget.
But with international box-office sales factored in, the movie has already earned back that production budget, so now the question is whether a second "Predators" film is in the cards. There are already two more films left to cull from Rodriguez's '90s-era script, and all involved in the film are certainly game.
"I think it'd be a great idea," Adrien Brody told us, adding that he'd still be worried about putting back on the muscle he gained for the role. "A six pack is not the difficult part. There was another 20 pounds on me I'd have to put back."
Antal is similarly open to returning to the "Predators" director's chair, though he's got another project lined up to write and direct at the moment. "I had a great time on this film," he said. "Robert gave me a chance to play with my childhood favorites, so it was a big deal and I'm really proud of the outcome. I'm really proud of this film. If 'Predators 2' was to come around, or 'Predators-es,' I'd jump at the opportunity."
A sequel, of course, is anything but certain at this point. "Predators" marks the third-straight sub-$30 million opening for 20th Century Fox's action flicks, following "The A-Team" ($25.6 million) and "Knight and Day" ($20.1 million). Will the studio recommit to "Predators," with its respectable B.O. performance despite the lack of an A-list action star? Or will it decide to take a break from the genre? For now, the "Predators" team is taking a wait-and-see attitude.
"There's a great saying in Hungarian," Antal said. "Man plans and God executes the plan."
Check out everything we've got on "Predators."
