JLS are officially the best boyband in the world at the moment. After watching their heart stopping show at the HMV Apollo, Hammersmith I was left without a voice and absolutely high on sheer excitement and I’m not even a bona fide JLS fan. I can only imagine what the hardcore fans must have experienced.
Due to the filming equipment which had been planted throughout the venue, one of which was right where our seats should have been, we were upgraded to the front row. I must admit I was quite thrilled as I had never managed to get front row at the Apollo; row four is the closest so far, and that was close. I felt a little guilty as there were clearly people (girls) in the audience who would have given their short lived lives to be sitting on the golden row. The guilt did not last long though.
The venue was jam packed from top to bottom with girls and their mothers. I think I saw one guy sitting behind us who had clearly been dragged there kicking and screaming by his other half. Girls wearing JLS t-shirts, hoodies and the letters painted on their faces let out shrieks every now and then hoping their idols would show their faces and not just another techie walking on the stage. ‘JLS’ was simultaneously chanted and echoed through the venue and I was getting more and more excited. I had camera at the ready and touched up the eye liner just in case one of those cameras caught a glimpse of me.
Well, the next hour and a half was a bit of a blur but a vivid blur, if that makes sense?! The boys really know how to work the crowd; the smiles, the winks and the crotch movements etc were enough to tickle any prudish female. Marvin’s ridiculously toned body and Aston’s cute little back flips were on show throughout. The performance was polished, maybe due to the entire show being filmed but actually I think they are true professionals and would have delivered regardless.
Mixed in with the songs from their debut album JLS the boys paid tribute to their hero, Michael Jackson, with each taking the lead in a MJ classic. Aston sung his little heart out to ‘I Want You Back’, JB lead on ‘Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough’, Oritsé took on ‘Beat It’ and Marvin ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’. With very tight dance moves the guys really did the King of Pop proud and they were thoroughly enjoying themselves throughout, as were their fans.
They also played the hit that made people sit up and take notice whilst they were in the finals of the X Factor in 2008, Rhianna’s ‘Umbrella’, a better version to the original in my eyes and also a cover of the Shai classic ‘If I ever Fall In Love’, where they presented four lucky ladies with red roses. I was so close to getting one from JB (check out the video footage!). But then Oritsé made up for the rejection by touching my hand during ‘Only Making Love’, magical.
They went through four costume changes, and in the interim their amazing dancers put on a great show to keep the crowd entertained, even though I think the screamed out girls could have done with some mellowing to get their breaths back. The screaming continued and increased slightly at every flash of torso. The atmosphere was electric and I actually felt like a teenager again.
The setlist included: ‘Heal This Heartbreak’, ‘Kickstart’, ‘Beat Again’, ‘If I Ever Fall In Love’, ‘Crazy For You’, ‘Close To You’, ‘Only Making Love’, ‘I Want You Back’, ‘Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough’, ‘Beat It’, ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’ , ‘One Shot’, ‘Keep You’, ‘Umbrella’ and ‘Everybody in Love’.
Although they didn’t officially win, I think JLS definitely have the X Factor and they have come a long way since they finished second to Alexandra Burke in the 2008 show. You can see in their performance how hard they have worked over the past year; their dancing, their singing and the actual songs are all at a high standard, which makes them almost invincible at the moment. With boybands like Westlife, Boyzone and Take That acting their age and sticking to the chilled and relaxed performances, JLS set the stage alight, oozing an immense amount of energy and creating mass hysteria.
There are only a couple of acts who have come out of the reality TV music shows fighting, Will Young, Girls Aloud and now JLS. They will be around for quite a while and have the potential to conquer the world. I bet Simon Cowell is a little gutted.

Greek-Belgian singer Katerine Avgoustakis was left reeling after being disqualified from Greece’s National Final line-up last week after her entry “Enjoy the Day” was leaked on to You Tube ahead of the televised show!
In a press conference aired on Greek channel Star TV she revealed her shock at the news and sadness at being left out of next month’s final and ultimately missing out on the opportunity to represent Greece in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. Katerine also dispelled rumours that she would be submitting and performing an alternative track. However despite Avgoustakis’ obvious disappointment the singer has found her silver lining and will be releasing “Enjoy the Day” along with four additional remixes on I-Tunes.
The Greek National Final will take place on 12th March with eight acts in contention for the ticket to Oslo!

Maro Litra is keeping it upbeat with her follow up single to the Gold selling release ‘Kaneis Lathos’! The new track ‘Elevator Love’ - a grenglish cocktail -is keeping with the pop vibe though slightly more electro infused than we’re used to with Maro. One thing is for sure its intended to keep your dancing shoes firmly on!
“Elevator Love” is the brain-child of musician Tony Cottura, lyricist Faidona Samsidi and producer Giannis Doxas! It’s also worth mentioning that Cottura’s previous credits include collaborations with the Backstreet Boys, N-Sync and his current project candidate - hip-hop mogul Puff Daddy (I still can’t get my head round the P-Diddy name change)! So how, you might be wandering, did our Maro grab the attentions of Mr. Cottura - well it was all down to the wonders of You Tube and her performance at the Mad Awards!

With a new album scheduled for spring delving into the pop, rock, ethnic and dance genres - we will be waiting with bated breath to hear what music magic Helena will be unleashing on to our eager ears! The first single set to hit the airwaves is Pigene Me Sto Hthes (Bring me to yesterday)!
