Vasilis Papakonstantinou (born 1949 in Arcadia) is the archetype of Greek Rockers. Although many existed before him (e.g. D.Poulikakos, P. Sidiropoulos etc) his huge powerful and extended voice along with his passionate singing and amazing live perfomances, put rock into mainstream greek audience. He is fairly considered to be the greek equal to Bruce Springsteen.
He started singing at early age with his teen band “Crosswords” but it was 1974, when he met Mikis Theodorakis in France, that started to become known to artist circles. Manos Loizos put him in discography in 1974 and his career started rapidly rising. He has sang almost all kinds of songs, greek folk, rock, hard rock, blues, tango (!) etc with amazing results. Also his live performances are absolutely memorable - ask Ian Dury, Peter Gabriel, or even … Grave Digger - as you can see by the number of live albums in his discography and his consistent greek and abroad touring.
