Cypria Auctions is proud to announce that its fourth auction of 19th and 20th century Greek and Cypriot Art will be held on the 14th of May, 2008 at 6:30pm at the Akamas Hall, Hilton Nicosia. Cypria Auctions was launched in 2006 and has held three highly successful auctions to date, attaining World Record Prices for the artists Polykleitos Rengos, Christoforos Savva , Ioannis Kissonergis, Paul Georgiou and Victor Ioannides to name a few.

The most significant work by a Cypriot artist to be sold at this auction is a rare and unusual relief sculpture by Christoforos Savva that comprises of six plaques made of painted cement. This work was originally an outdoor fountain, where water poured out of the mouths of three beautifully sculpted male and female heads. Additionally, two delightful gouaches by the artist will be available.

The auction will also include a charming oil by Michael Kkashialos, The Street Vendor and a watercolour study by Ioannis Kissonergis, Anemisma. Quite rare art works by both these artists are available; a painted mirror/hanger by Michael Kkashialos and a painted silk fire screen by Ioannis Kissonergis.

Other works will include a fine painting by George Skoteinos, Lithosevia, Metabolism, 1968 two superb paintings by Andreas Ladommatos; four landscapes by Lefteris Economou and two works by Victor Ioannides.

Important works by Greek artists to be included are a seascape by Spyros Vasiliou and two figurative works painted on wood by the same artist. Two rare nudes of the 1930s will also take part, one by Polykleitos Rengos and one by Vasilios Germenis. Works by Angelos Giallinas, Nikos Hadjikyriakos Ghikas (RA), George Mavroides and George Gounaropoulos will also be included.

An exquisite painting will also be available by the 19th Century German artist Karl Theodor Von Piloty. He taught at the Munich School of art and his pupils included amongst other Greek artists, Nikolaos Gyzis, George Iacovides and Nikiforos Lytras.

A Lecture will be organised on the 11th of May, 2008 at 6.00pm, Hilton Cyprus, titled Restoration and the Christoforos Savva Sculptures. The preview of the auction may be viewed from Sunday, the 11th of May to Tuesday the 13th of May, from 9.00am to 9.00pm, and on Wednesday the 14th of May from 9.00am to 2.00pm. The auction will be held on the evening of the 14th of May at 6.30pm. The auctioneer will be Petros Vergos.
