Picketing outside the Turkish Embassy, in Belgrave Square (tube stations: Hyde Park/Victoria) at 2.45pm and the Westminster March and Rally in Trafalgar Square – Sunday 20 July 2008
A big turn out is the goal, say the organisers, the National Federation of Cypriots.
The crowd will be addressed by Stefanos Stefanou, the Government spokesman of Cyprus, and also in attendance are British parliamentarians.
Meet at 2.45pm outside the Turkish Embassy, Belgrave Square and then start to march to Trafalgar Square at 3.15pm.
Calls for the reunification of Cyprus, the withdrawal of Turkish troops and putting an end to the occupation of the northern part of the island, will be the sentiments of the public mass rally.
The public will be charged with placads with slogans such as, 'Free United Cyprus' and 'Turkish Troops Out of Cyprus'.
Cyprus was divided on July 20, 1974 following an ill-fated coup 'de tart and the Turkish invasion and occupation of one-third of the Cypriot northern territory.
The National Federation of Cypriots will organise the proceedings.
As the foremost representative body of UK Cypriots, the Federation performs a two-fold role. Firstly, it spearheads the British Cypriot community's efforts to promote the cause of a reunited Cyprus, free from Turkish occupation troops and illegal colonists, for the benefit of all Cypriots. Secondly, it coordinates the work of UK Cypriots in the political, social, cultural and educational spheres and lobbies for and articulates the interests and concerns of the Cypriot community in the United Kingdom.
