Greece's 3-0 victory over Moldova was another potentially crucial step towards only their second appearance at a World Cup but it was watched by barely 12,000 fans at the Giorgios Karaiskakis Stadium.
Euro 2004-winner Angelos Charisteas -- who scored a double against the Eastern Europeans -- spoke to Greek TV Station Mega after the match and was disappointed by the lack of support for the home side.
"I think the stadium should be full whenever the national team plays. " Charisteas said.
"I asked how many people turned up to watch England play Kazakhstan today and they told me there were 50,000 people -- with Kazakhstan and England!"
Speaking at a post-match press conference, Greece manager Otto Rehhagel suggested the lack of pedigree of Saturday's opponents as a reason for the low crowd.
"Perhaps the name of the opponent was the main reason the crowd weren't attracted to come and see the match."
The German was confident, however, that fans would flock to see Greece on Wednesday, when the former European champions will host Switzerland.
"I believe that on Wednesday there will be a bigger crowd and that against Italy in November, it will be full.
"Maybe the crowd assumed that after two away victories, they would continue with another easy win."
