The Cyprus Tourism Organisation recently organised an evening presentation, for UK travel, food and wine journalists to promote the island’s food and wine, which forms an important component of any visit to the island. This took place on 5th March 2008 between 18.00 hrs and 22.00 hrs at Mossiman’s Academy in London.
Following a drinks reception there was a 5 minute presentation by CTO London, followed by a short presentation on the herbs and spices of Cyprus.
The Cypriot chef, Polycarpos Demetriou, from the five-star Annabelle Hotel then prepared a fish dish (Seabass), Afelia and Anaropites with honey, which attending journalists had the opportunity to taste and expressed their delight and amazement. Tonia Buxton, the presenter of ‘My Greek Kitchen’ transmitted on Discovery TV, acted as the lively compere of the evening, giving her own insight into the pleasure of the Cypriot cuisine.
Paul Hollywood a well known UK celebrity chef who in the past has worked with Polycarpos, then demonstrated how Eliopites, Halloumopita and Cyprus Koullouri are made. He took the opportunity to praise Cyprus’ hospitality and its unique cooking tradition.
Subsequently guests were served with Souvlaki, Sheftalies and other canapés including Flaounes, which gave us the opportunity to emphasise our unique celebrations during Easter holidays.
Cyprus wine maker Nicos Nicolaides presented to the guests an extensive variety of Cyprus wine (red, white, rosé Commandaria, Muscat).Those present expressed their satisfaction with the originality and quality of Cyprus wines.
