Press Release - Tuesday 15th 2008f April 2008
...BY GETTING VERY MUDDY!
On 29 March, a team of intrepid people took part in an exciting, off road 10k run with water 'hazards', muddy sections, trees and hills. They were raising funds for The Hornsey Trust. The charity, tucked away behind Dukes Mews in Muswell Hill, runs the only specialist centre and school in the London region for children with cerebral palsy.
Ruby, 3½, attends Parent and Child sessions at the centre. Her dad Derren ran. So did Max, whose son Jaspar is in the nursery group here.
Team Hornsey members really enjoyed the event which was organised by British Military Fitness. They all crossed the finish line smiling, even after wading through waist-deep mud! Derren and Max said 'We are overwhelmed by everyone's generosity. £16k has been raised so far, with even more to come!'
The monies will part fund a specialist teacher (Conductor) here. Conductors guide, encourage and motivate children to learn to do as much as possible for themselves, by themselves so they can become more independent.
‘2008 is special. It marks 20 years of conductive education at the Trust, so we were delighted that 21 runners signed up. Every pound received will make a lasting impact on our work and will be put to the best use possible, directly where children here need it the most.’ said Anna Salamonowicz, Head of Fundraising. ‘Each year we need to raise at least £200,000 just to keep going. We hope this will be the first of many events to raise funds for our charity - and to celebrate our successes.’
You can still support Team Hornsey’s efforts at www.justgiving.com/teamhornsey. Or, if you are tempted to take part, the next event in Redhill is on Saturday 25 October.
Entry is free if you run for our charity! All we ask is that you raise £300 sponsorship monies. For a Race Application Form or for more details, email anna@hornseytrust.org.uk or ring 020 8444 7242.
