Hello guys and gals!!

Absence makes the heart grow fonder…

No, I haven’t been abducted by aliens or had a vuvuzela implanted down my throat! I have been involved in a few projects which have unfortunately clashed with my show, so don’t dispair, I will be back on the air on the 27th July for a few weeks prior to jetting off to the mother land for a well earned rest!

In the summer time…

what fab weather we have had over the last few weeks. For me nothing beats a sunny evening in good ol’ London town, but there is one thing that is missing while you sitting and enjoying a drink…the old men that go around in cyprus selling scratch cards!!! If you are over in cyprus in the summer and one comes up to you, ask him if he will give you a refund if you don’t win! That will give him the hump!!!

World Cup

Well what a would cup it was!! The team that had the most potential finally delivered. So well done to Spain. But there were few highlights for me.

1) Maradona….a well dressed drug -lord gnome

2) England not losing on penalties

3) The vuvuzela drowning out ITVs dismal commentary

4) France!! they should have been there…so justice was served.

5) The Jubalani…which is the roundest ball ever! (apparently)

Now we have few weeks break before the premiership starts all over again!!. time to get the beers in!

Sarbel

A few listeners have contacted me to find out when Sarbel will be releasing a new song. All I can say is watch this space!… I have heard it and it will be BIG!!!!!

While in cyprus…

I can’t wait to jet over to cyprus for a well earned break. Rumour has it Cyprus has become very expensive. But remember not to get ripped off or over charged for basic things. Travel cost is a major burden on any pocket, but some friends have set up a car hire company that is affordable and competitive.

May you all have a great summer!!

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!!

As another season draws to a close, I would like to congratulate Chelsea on lifting the Premier league title, in style I must add.  But without sound too bias, a massive well done to Tottenham. For far too long we have lived in the shadows of our neighbours down Seven Sisters Road, and quite a few (including myself!) doubted we had the mental strength to hold 4th place. But we did, and finally broke into the Champions League ….ok we still have to qualify for the group stages, but as my dear old yiayia says…” no rushy re Mikey!” Fingers crossed that this is the beginning of a wonderful era at the Lane!

Party Time!!

This saturday (15th May) Nepomak, The worldwide organisation for Cypriots Living abroad, have organised a fabulous boat party on the River Thames. I will be spining the decks ( hopefully without causing nausea on the waves!) The event has a limited capacity and if you fancy a wicked night out check out their facebook group for more information!

Charity Event

The Savvas Regas Foundation Quiz Night

I will be attending a charity quiz night on 22 May 2010 in aid of The Savvas Regas Foundation. This is a charity set up in memory of Savvas Regas who lost his battle against colon cancer in August 2008. Cancer affects many people, either directly or indirectly and it is events like this that are useful in promoting awareness and showing support.

If you are free and would like to show some support, further information can be found at www.thesrfoundation.org.uk (this site is currently being updated to reflect the recent grant making initiatives to St Mark’s Hospital for pioneering research into colorectal cancer), and also check out the facebook group. A massive hats off to the organisers and you have my full support for this fabulous event.

Don’t  forget to tune in every tuesday night from 8pm!

April 27th, 2010

Hey guys and girls, I hope you are all fine and dandy!

‘Arry!!

What a rollar coaster ride it has been for Spurs fans. I was one of the Spurs faithful who made the short trip to Wembley for what we all thought would be a practice match before a cup final against Chelsea-well I was wrong and if I am honest, Portsmouth deserved it more. Following that gloomy sunday evening, we were to look forward to the visits of Arsenal and Chelsea to White Hart Lane the following wednesday and saturday. Well as you know Spurs finally “Rose” to the challenge and looked like a top 4 team. I think Harry Redknapp has done a great job at Spurs. He joined a team 18 months ago who were bottom of the league, but has turned them into a great team (contrary to what many gooners will think! lol) He has given Spurs a bit of a bite and I believe he should be manager of the season. Spurs is destiny is in their own hands. Win the next three games and we are in the champions league…its spurs we are talking about…I better start praying!!

Election time

why is everyone getting excited about the election and TV debates?. Seriously, each of the three leaders have their own agenda and are just putting on an act for the camera. Why don’t they invite the leaders of the other parties too?If they want to win the vote of the average person, focus on the necessities…hospitals, schools, and getting rid of those bus lane cameras which keep taking pictures of me!!!!

Exam Time!

We are now entering a busy period for all who are taking their GCSE/A Level exams. Trust me when I say that I feel your pain at the moment, but you have to keep grafting away and it will soon be over…until the day before your results are published! Good Luck!!!

January 28th, 2010

I would like to take this chance to wish you all a happy new year (even though January is almost over!)lol
I hope 2010 has started off well for each and every one of you. 2009 was full of mixed emotions for many people.Lets hope this year is a good one for all!!

A big  THANK YOU

As most of LGRs loyal listeners will know I missed the whole of November to be by the bedside of my father who was in a critical state following surgery. A massive thank you to all who passed on their wishes , prayers and support. It means alot. Thankfully Mr P is on the road to recovery. Lets hope it continues!

LET IT SNOW

So January started with major disruptions due to blanket of snow we were graced with. You would think that the local authorities learnt from last year to prepare for such adverse weather by ordering and storing enough grit?. But we Greeks never let a bit of frozen water stop us doing what we want, we will do our souvles in any weather!!

Off the Pandora!

I managed to sit through what I would consider an amazing 3d experience. I eventually managed to see Avatar. (yes even Mikey Mike needs to queue up for certain things!sob) It was worth the wait.  Having an interest in Biological research made the film even better and got my mind wondering if it could really happen. Like, for example,  if the young  cypriot male avatars will have tight skinny jeans and curly afro’s, and ride moped-like creatures until the early hours?,or if the older male cypriot avatars would “hire” blonde female Avatars from clubs and take to tree houses for some shenanigans while their wives slept at home??…I wonder… :-p

coming up…

As always LGR is here for you, our loyal listeners. We have a shed load of talent in our community and its our aim for you to be noticed.

Coming up over the next few months we will be interviewing the boys from the 4tune, who have produced a fantastic track performed by Mclean entitled My name.

For all you belly dance lovers I be interviewing Farah Nasri, who has supported me on a number of performances, and also a new talent called Samsara, who will be releasing a belly dance fitness DVD !!

Of course we will have exclusive tracks and gossip, so keep it locked!!

For all you facebook fans, join the exclusive group LGR: Young and Connected for more gossip!

take care for now….nas’te kala..je eyo kalitera!

Firstly I want to say that it was great to be back on air again after my summer holiday. A big thank you for tuning in!

Cyprus 09!!

While I was over in cyprus, I had the pleasure of meeting up with a few celebs- namely Peter Andre (yes ladies- Mr 6-pack!) and of course my good friend sarbel. (see my photos!)

I met up Peter at Ammos bar in Larnaca and he was enthusiatic about coming down to LGR for a chat. We had a good old chin- wag for a while, then he was spotted and and the camera’s came out in force. At present, I am awaiting confirmation from his management regarding his availability…watch this space!

Sarbel’s CD single “Mou paei” is now available with the added bonus song “So Perfect” written and produced by the man himself. Definately one for your collection!!

Shakey shakey!

As most of you will know, I love my belly dance music! Every first Thursday of the month, I am proud to host the Urban Raqs belly dance showcase (see my weblinks). It’s a show case where you see different styles of the art and its a great night out. Will keep you updated! I had the organisers on the show a few months ago and they put alot of effort in promoting the art. Check out their link!

Farah’onics

Also on my links, I have the pleasure of introducing “Farah’onics” I will be interviewing the founder Farah Nasri on the show in the coming months. Farah is an outstanding performer and the company aims to offer outstanding enntertainment and courses to promote the art of belly dance. Check out the weblink for more information and watch out because Farah’onics will be huge!! I will keep you updated for their next event!

OUFFOUUUU!!!!

Now I haven’t moaned yet, but one thing that really winds me up is that early evening call after a busy day at work  to ask  if i would “like a new credit card?” ,  ” free mobile upgrade?”  and the best one ” If I would like to change my electricity provider?”.

Seriously, if I wanted any of the above  I WOULD BLOODY DO IT MYSELF!! :-)  I feel better now!! lol

take care and remember to… sway with mike on tuesday night!

Summer in Cyprus…

August 28th, 2009

Hey guys and gals

Having found time to adjust back to life back in good ol’ Blighty, I thought I would give you my 2 cents worth of my experiences in our mother land!

You want Large??

Now, for me being in cyprus is like home from home. I love the weather, the food( obviously!) and the general laid back lifestyle. However, this year I felt that Cyprus is in the process of losing its “Cypriot” identity. Did you notice the amount of non-cypriot people are employed in restaurants and bars? I have nothing against people migrating for work and a better life, most of our parents and grandparents took that route years ago. But they made an effort to learn the language of the country they migrated to!! How many times did I order something in Greek, then repeat it English,  and they still got my order wrong!! Maybe the restaurants should have a picture book with tick boxes and make us tick the orders!!

How much??

I found that the prices of many drinks were close to being a rip off!! 4 euros for a frappe?? are you kidding me?? The conversion rate for us visiting from London meant everything was pricey. I’m sure that an evening out for a family would mean you have to remortgage your house first! Something needs to be done by the tourist board and government to try and attact us next year.

Exam results

I’m sure many of you are celebrating having gained great exam results..well done and good luck in the path that you choose!

have a great bank holiday weekend!

To kalokairi afto mazi sas….

August 14th, 2009

Many of you are preparing yourselves for a well deserved summer holiday.
I will be flying over to Cyprus for a well earned break. Hopefully I will see many of you over there. Hopefully you will listening to the songs I play on my show while you are on the beach…my tips for the tunes of the summer have to be “Mou Paei” by my good friend Sarbel, along with Tamta and “Koita me” so if you have your stereos on Finikoudes beach, I want to hear them blearing out the speakers!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a great summer and we will be back together shaking it in September on Young & Connected.

Thanks for the love and support

Mikey

The King of pop is dead…Long live the king!

August 14th, 2009

I was as shocked as anyone to find out that the king of pop Michael Jackson passed away in what now seems suspicious circumstances. Controversy always followed Michael Jackson, but what we need to remember is that he had an abnormal lifestyle and upbringing to that of normal people. He was in no doubt under a lot of pressure from a very young age, and so didn’t have a normal childhood that was reflected in his latter years. However, his one outlet was performing, and that he did! Countless hits, breath- taking concerts and an inspiration to many artists in the industry. How many times have you shaken it to one of his song?

We should remember that this “thriller”, who didn’t care if you were “black or white” and didn’t “blame it on the boogie” will always be a legend. In respect to the legend, Long live the king of pop!
