Anna Vissi ROCKS!!!

Tony Neophytou LGR - Monday 10th of March 2008

Cypriot star will be set to release a stunning English album - a new chapter for the artist who has sold 9.5 million albums worldwide.

Is it Anna Vissi’s intention to finally conquer the global scene, or is it simply concealing the fact she loves rock - and merely wants to express that innate passion without any plans of world domination. The truth is probably to be found in both rationales.

As of February 2008, Anna signed to Maple Jam Music Group for the Management of the release of her upcoming English album in the US.

"A rock album with unbelievably nice songs, that some of the biggest people in the USA music industry worked on. It is an album that could only be made in the US, that represents who I am, and I believe that this album will be a big plus in my career so far."
(Anna Vissi)

The album will be set to hail a fresh chapter in the extraordinariness of a career which has spanned over thirty years, selling over 9.5 million albums worldwide for Cyprus's legendary pop icon.

The pop star has been busy preparing the English album, which included a session at a recording studio in L.A. Writers will include Diane Warren, Glen Ballard, and Brian Hewes, as well as Robbin Di Maggio as producer for some songs, and Mark Needham as mix engineer.

On the Myspace of Robin DiMaggio recently it stated "Also I just finished working with the great Anna Vissi playing and producing her".

She quite literally kicked off New Year's Day with a bombastic concert that was held in her birth-town Larnaca.

The female artist has a reputation for courageous decision-making, which might partly explain the motivation behind the all American album.

She’s a remarkably humble, down-to-earth figure who admits the 'odd mistake' – and most notably, she even doubted the necessity of her participation in the Eurovision final in Athens, where she described it as a "bitter sweet" moment, confirmed her ambivalence in whether it was a good decision to enter – in spite of ‘Everything’ culminating in a ninth ranking for Greece.

"A true diva of the Greek musical stage, a role model for all other performers of similar genres and one who determines all the latest music and fashion trends." (Room 210 (Greek Magazine published in 2004).

Even more of a telling point is the absence of hit-maker Nikos Karvelas, Anna's confidant spanning over thirty years, although not involved in this all-American initiative have already confirmed their intention to produce their next Greek album – in a follow-up to 'Nylon' in 2005.

According to a recent interview while in London, Vissi stated that fans should be patient "for the album isn't going to be released for quite some time." It will be her first all-new studio album since her 2005 release Nylon.

Her last English album was released in 2000, 'Everything I am' although it achieved gold status in Greece, failed to become the spring-board to international recognition.

Nevertheless in spite of not having penetrated that bigger world stage, Anna’s credentials with a tad of irony perhaps, aided in the re-launch of Kylie Minogue's career, she penned the song 'On a Night Like This' that became a worldwide hit by the Australian star.

And for this commentator has risen the speculative point, what if 'On a Night Like This' was released by Anna could have instigated a world pop career?

In September 2007, Sony BMG Greece released a compilation titled "The Essential Anna Vissi". The album contains 17 tracks, includes some of Anna's biggest hits. It also includes the previously leaked but unofficially released English song "Is it Safe?"

In November 2007, she did a special charity concert in London at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden with London Philharmonic Orchestra. She raised £250,000, excluding the entrance tickets costing £200.
