Antonis Remos in London

Tony Neophytou LGR / Parikiaki - Saturday 17th of May 2008

"With every performance in London, I always experience the warm and homely atmosphere only the Greeks living abroad can offer" (Antonis Remos)

Antonis Remos will be appearing live at London's Hammersmith Apollo, 7.30pm, on Sunday 25 May 2008, courtesy of Bank of Cyprus and JY Productions in association with Galaxias Paragoges Ltd.

The amazing artist has whipped the local fan base into a veritable frenzy with his imminent arrival to the UK.

The concert will chart a magnificent career which has spanned 12 years of a passionate fervour to the music business.

Since his self-titled debut album in 1996, the succession of hits has been relentless, where he has outsold every other 'laiko' artist and achieved many platinum and gold discs.

A superb chance to catch him in performance without the arduous planning of a trip to Athens - and at his popular haunt, the Athinon Arena, in a co-partnership with legendary artist Marinella.

The forthcoming three hour concert will take us back through all his great successes including 'Etsi Xafnika, Ti Eimouna Gia Sena, Mihtes Monaxias, Meine, Me Tin Porta Anihti, Pio Kormi Se Taxidevi, Emeis, Ela Na Me Telioseis, Den Eho Pou Na Pao, Meine Ligo Sti Grammi, Ma Then Teleiosame, Kardia Mou Min Anisiheis', and many other hits. Stage production is by Kostas Kabetanides.

Appearing once again in the UK can only mean one thing - the Greek and Cypriot community of London loves you! Are you happy to be visiting us for another performance?
That I'm giving yet another concert shows how beautiful the Greeks and the Cypriots make us feel every time I am here. I always the warm and homely atmosphere only the Greeks living abroad can offer, from the heart.

What will be different with this concert compared to your previous appearance?
My last concert in London was in 2005, before I was enlisted in the army. The memories and the emotions were very intense; I can still recall how I felt in the crowded theatre. It was the biggest strenght I could have mustered for the times to follow. Three years later I want to believe that the Antonis the Greeks and the Cypriots know and love, will give them a different show with all the songs they have loved.

Your latest release, a live album, with Marinella, has become a massive success. What was it like to work with such a renowned artist?
Marinella to me is an important milestone in my career and my life. She is the gerat lady of Greek music, who after 15 years of absence fronm the night life, offered me wholeheartedly her cooperation and dedication. She is the most genuine and authentic person and artist I've ever known. I consider her someone close to me and I love her dearly.

Have you always admired Marinella?
Are there any Greeks that don't admire Marinella?

Which songs did you enjoy performing altogether?
It's not just the songs themselves that made the difference; I enjoyed everything about the cooperation with Marinella. When she's near to me, I love listening to her unique vocals.

Can we see a smiliar collaboration in the future with another artist perhaps?
Having worked with Marinella, I think I am going to take a break from collaborations. Her presence next to me was so intense, that no other artist could compare to her. For this year, and for the first after many, I would like to do some things on my own. We'll see.

Your're rounding up your tour of North America with Sakis Rouvas. Have you enjoyed the experience?
With my friend Sakis Rouvas, we visited 6 cities in Canada and America (Montreal, Toronto, Chicago, Atlantic City, Connecticut and Las Vegas) and 2 in Australia (Melbourne and Sydney). We still have to visit South Africia, Johannesburg in particular, where this tour will end.

We experienced many beautiful moments; the Greeks of the diapora showed us their love in many ways and moved us on many occasions with their support.

My cooperation with Sakis Rouvas was great; we have worked together in the past and we are friends. I think that this tour left us all with beautiful memories.

What do you like most about performing on stage?
The vibe from the people, I think, is the greatest source of inspiration.

What projects do you have in the pipeline?
I am already in the studio working on a new project. We have been working on it with my team and I hope it will be ready in September.

Finally, do you have a message for your fans in London who are eagerly awaiting your concert?
I am certain that we will have a great time! All of us will leave aside our problems and enjoy a great night, an endless party full of music and dancing, and one that will be unforgettable for a long time to come. I highly anticipate that day... I can't wait.
