Kalomoira has the secret formulae for Euro success
Cypriot Eurovision hopeful Evdokia
Greek Eurovision artist Kalomoira has retained a four-week reign at the top of the LGR Chart.
The infectiously catchy ethno R'n'B 'Secret Combination' which is being widely tipped to do exceptionally well for Greece. Doubtless it is gearing up for a top 7 placing - I'd say!
The slick choreographed fine dancing capabilities of Kalomoira and her four male dancers - will definitely grab the attention of the voters.
Greece will perform at the Eurovision Semi-Final on May 20, with the aim to qualify for the final latter stages on May 24, in Belgrade, Serbia.
Kalomoira was triumphant in the selection process, which was made in Greece on February 27 defeating her rivals Kostas Martakis and Chrispa.
Limassol newcomer artist Konstantinos Papas has joined forces with Sofia Arvaniti singing the up-beat feel-good dance tune 'Mpora' which has moved up one to number two.
The big new tune from Sarbel 'Eho Trelathi' (No.3) will feature on the eagerly anticipated forthcoming album, which is set for release in the Spring.
The pop song fuses a mixture of the Oriental/Greek rhythms with a ladden rock vibe. The brand new album is to be a follow-up to 'Yassou Maria' which culiminated in a respectable seventh in the Helsinki Eurovision Final of last year.
Fourth is Alkistis Protopsalti with the dance/reggae 'Pame Havai' compounding the statement of 'all aboard on the London Greek Radio airwaves... destination... Havai!' The hit song is on the album 'Sto Oreotero Simio'.
Eleftheria Arvanitaki 'Min Orkiseze' has remained in fifth with this classy, melodic pop ballad which is the Greek version to the Italian song 'Come Monna Lisa'.
New entry for Natasa Theodoridou with the ethnic mid-tempo ballad 'Na M'agapas'(No. 6).
Cypriot pop sensation Michalis Hatzgiannis has re-entered the chart with the funky remix to 'Heria Spila' on eleventh.
Paschalis Terzis 'Tis Kardias Ta Monopatia' is a re-entry at twelve which is derived from the excellent platinum album 'I Diafora'.
Hro Feat. Gigi D'Alessio 'Amore Mio' has climbed a further five spots to ten in this beautiful duet - sung in Italian and Greek.
Giorgos Sampanis 'Haramata' is a further new entry at fifteen with this strong ballad.
Thanos Petrelis with the hit tsifteteli number 'Adiorthoti' was a further re-entry at 16.
Peggy Zina 'Dio Xeni' has slightly drifted outwards by three, to seventeen, with the rhythmical pop song which hails from the album 'Trekse'.
Panos Psaltis 'Aggele Mou' (18) has broken all records with a total of 23 weeks domination of the chart, the former number one has engaged a positive reaction by the listener through emails and phone-calls.
Cypriot Eurovision contestant Evdokia Kadi 'Femme Fatale' is a new entry at No.20, Cyprus performs at the Semi-Final (2), which planned on May 22 to be held in Belgrade, Serbia. Evdokia, who hails from Nicosia, was triumphant in the local heat stages, which were held in January of this year.
'Femme Fatale' is a distinctive fusion of the zeimbekiko and rumba, with a quite pleasant rhythmical beat, sung entirely in Greek with the exception of the French title.
How will it fair in Eurovision? The main highlight is the eye-catching live performance which is reminscent of a trip to a taverna at a Limassol sea-side front. Either tele-voters will love the visual gimmick or simply turn a blind-eye to affectionate act. Visually, it is quite an impressive feat and that's where it works really in terms of the choreographed three minutes as opposed to a radio friendly song.
It's got a solid identity, if sporadically there are moments which come across as messy, with those rapid interludes between the Greek and Latin musical bites. Overall, it could have been strenghtened by a much bigger 'uumph' factor!
Cyprus was drawn seventeenth in the running order for the Eurovision Semi-Final on May 22, in Belgrade, Serbia.
How the chart is determined?
The determinant factors are (i) listener song requests, (ii) big new hits which emanate in Greece and Cyprus (iii) DJ/producer choices, (iv) LGR on-line polling data.
