Tony Neophytou LGR - Monday 21st of April 2008
Kalomoira will endeavour to soar into the dizzier heights of the Eurovision with the aim of capitalising on Greece's excellent run of form.
The goal: is a minimum of a top 10!
The 'Secret Combination' is infectiously catchy with good R'n'B elements, addictive beats and the requisite Greek rhythm. The artist had confirmed the catchiness of the tune was a decisive factor in picking this option.
"That's why we ended up picking it, we had listened to so many songs, but that song in my car every time I kept humming it, I'm like I love this song, and that's why we picked it, because I was feeling it more!" (Kalomoira, LGR)
'Secret Combination' had conquered the No.1 position on the TOP 20 definitive Chart on London Greek Radio. The artist who was interviewed on LGR was appreciative for the enormous support amongst the listener.
"Thank you so much for being so sweet and for giving out your positive energy, and I really hope that they like my song, and I really hope they like Greece's performance, my performance."
Kalomoira is a feisty charismatic performer who has the credentials to pull off a really great result. The inter play of girl next door innocence and irresistible natural charm but also choreographed sexiness might prove the 'secret combination' for a sure-fire hit.
Greek entrants are especially recognised for yielding slick choreographed presentations - for instance in the memorable Sakis Rouvas back-lip to Elena Paparizou's mid-air suspension whilst simultaneously capable of playing the lyra!
The choreographer Juliano had confirmed the three minute act will captivate the public imagination - with quite a few innovative quirky surprises.
"Well - I'm really excited about everything, but I'm a little nervous, we're doing a lot of rehearsals, but we're definitely cooking up a couple of surprises, I can't tell you because there surprises!"
She confessed a slight nervousness at the prospect of having to follow in the footsteps of the former predecessors.
"Its a little pressure but I'm trying not to think about it - I'm just thinking taking our team and do the best we can do and whatever happens because with Eurovision I feel like you can never predict, there's no secret recipe."
The artist had concluded the promo tour which was intended to mobilise the support for Greece's Eurovision initiative amongst the other countries in contention.
The tour had included a visit to Azerbaijan, Romania, Constantinople and Bosnia Herzegovina - and doubtless in a quest for divine intervention the artist had an audience with the Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew, while fulfilling her trip to Turkey. The final destination was to Belgrade on April 20 - the host city for this year's competition.
Greece was landed a plumb draw in the running order - Kalomoira will perform nineteenth. The final position! Is that a lucky omen?
"Yes - I hope so, that was actually Elena Paparizou's number when she performed in Eurovision - so I'm hoping that's a good sign!"
10 countries will voted into the final, however, in a twist to this year's voting procedure - one finalist will be selected by the jurors, the other nine contestants by the public.
The director for the performance in Belgrade will be bestowed to Kostas Kapetanides who was charged with the official video clip of 'Secret Combination'. Kostas is accredited with the direction of many a pop video of elite artists including Sakis Rouvas, Kostas Martakis and Despina Vandi.
Two backing-vocalists will lend their weight behind the initiative; they are voice coach Victoria Halkiti and Nektarios Georgiadis.
Ilias Ledakis will be charged with the scenic performance - the set designer who instigated the concept behind the Eurovision contest in Athens in 2006. The styling is by Giorgos Segredakis with the make-up and hair the responsibility of Dimitris Gianetos.
The bookmakers had offered odds of 20-1 of Greece to win Eurovision outright with the fiercest competitor by the way of Ireland's 'Dustin the Turkey' a puppet that is sat in a shopping trolley!
Kalomoira on either 9/11 May will head for Belgrade to initiate rehearsals for the qualification heat that will take place on Tuesday, May 20.
"I want to say to everyone in London, many kisses, filakia!"
